Today i noticed that Avast! my antivirus program of choice was out of date.Well not thinking much of it i checked and noticed a main software platform update was available. Now many people who have used Avast before will tell you that Avast 4.8 and older hogs up resources. running idle without scanning it will normally use about 65mb of memory. In truth that kind of sucks. Compare that to AVG free with its 35mb. However during a scan Avast's memory usage sours to over 100mb!(Closer to 150!) AVG would lever off around 100mb but sometimes the scans would freeze and cause major issues.Well I updated Avast to version 5.0.418. Im thinking wow nice new interface. But the real treat was the operating memory. AVAST! 5.0.418 uses 3mb active memory! For all Avast does that has to be some kind of record! I mean we are talking about a program with an active protection shield! This is truly astonishing.Needless to say i removed AVG from all my computers and replaced it with Avast 5.0
MY FINAL VERDICT
Avast 5.0 went from being for high powered machines to being usable on almost anything with ram and Windows 2000+
GRADE: A+
